Welcome
               to the
Felecite Chretien Chapter,
       Louisiana Society,
              Order of
       Confederate Rose.

The Felecite Chretien Chapter, as well as the Louisiana Society OCR, is
dedicated to the preservation of Southern History, Confederate Symbols and
Artifacts through educational activities as well as benevolent and social
functions. The Felecite Chretien Chapter will act as a support group for the
Maj. Gen. Franklin Gardner Camp 1421, Sons of Confederate Veterans, just as the LASOCR does for the SCV as a whole, through other OCR Chapters. This Chapter, as well as the OCR as a whole, is non-profit, non-political and
non-sectarian. Its membership is open to all persons ten (10 ) years of age or older, regardless of lineage and gender, who wish to support our efforts to
Preserve and Protect Southern Heritage and Southern Pride.

Our Chapter is named after Felecite Chretien, who was a 4' 10" lady, who had taken over the running of Chretien Point Plantation, after her husband Hypolite, had died. She was a strong willed woman who wore trousers, rode her horse astride, played poker and enjoyed a good cigar. She often traveled unaccompanied to New Orleans to confer with bankers and partake in her fondness for
gambling. Using her shrewd business skills and gambling winnings she increased her plantation holdings from 5,000 to 10,000 acres, doubling her husband's
fortune. Felecite Chretien was probably the first liberated woman in the South.

Our Chapter is located in Lafayette, La. with our members
living in the surrounding communities.   Our meets are held in
conjunction with the Maj. Gen. Franklin Gardner Camp #1421,
Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Both of our meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday night of each month.  If you would like to attend our next
meeting, then please click here to send us an e-mail requesting the time, place and date of our next meeting.  Please list in the
subject line  " OCR info. "

Our Chapter, is not only involved in local activities, but we also
participate with other Chapters from across the Confederation, in
various projects. Those projects my include, but are not limited to,
Confederate Memorials services, (where some of our members dress in the period mourning cloths and are known as" Black Roses"), School day living histories, War for Southern Independence re-enactments, as well as marching in parades and other fun functions. Once a year, members from our Chapter meet with other State Chapter members for a State
" Convention" and workshop.  Also, members from across the State, travel to a host State and hold a National Convention, where we get a chance to meet and visit others from across the Nation.

If the Felecite Chretien Chapter OCR, or the OCR in general, sounds like something you would like to be involved with, then please click here to send us an e-mail requesting membership information. Please put in the subject line " OCR membership".
