Welcome! This is my Web Page Dedicated to My Fellow Members of the War Between the States Re-enacting Unit The 18th LA / 114th NYVI
Our Unit was formed in 1967 and is one of the oldest, still active units in Louisiana. We participate in at least 8 to 9 events a year which include, but not limited to, parades, schools talks, Living Histories or re-enactments. Most of our members live in or around some of the same areas where these two Units lived and fought during the War.
The 18th LA was formed from various Militia Companies from the following Parishes: St. James, St. Landry, St. Mary, Lafayette, Orleans, Lafourche and Natchitoches. The 18th, after being partially trained and organized at Camp Moore, traveled by train to North Mississippi. At that time it joined the Confederate Army and fought in the Battle of Shiloh. Shortly after the battle, the Unit was transferred back to Louisiana, where it remained and fought for the rest of the war.
The 114th NYVI was formed from troops that lived in and around the following areas of the State of New York: Oxford, Norwich, Eaton, Lebanon, Greene, Sherburne, New Berlin, Hamilton, Brookfield, Otselic and Cazenovia. It was sent to New Orleans in December of 1862 and served under the Command of General Banks in the 19th Army Corp, Army of the Gulf.
